Benjamin Lockhart, Jr. has been pastor of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Marietta, GA since January of 1978. He came to Pleasant Grove from Faith Tabernacle Baptist Church in Atlanta where he served as pastor for three years. Prior to that, he served as pastor of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Macon, GA, New Bethel Baptist Church in Unadilla, GA, Oak Level Baptist Church and Antioch Baptist Church in Hawkinsville, GA.
With God’s anointing and guidance, Pastor Lockhart has grown Pleasant Grove from 300 to more than 1,500 members, Licensed, Ordained, and Pastored over 100+ Ministers, and expanded foreign mission and community outreach. One of his biggest accomplishments as pastor, under the direction of the Holy Spirit, has been moving “the church on the hill” at 1016 Whitlock Avenue to the new building of the church facility at 566 Whitlock Avenue. Pastor has been anointed, appointed, and ordained to carry out the work of this ministry to lead Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church to higher dimensions in the Lord.
Pastor Lockhart loves the Lord and he is a lover of God’s people. He loves our youth and they love him – “Granddaddy”! He is always excited and ready to share the good news of Jesus Christ. He is known to light up a “Waffle House” with the spreading of the gospel as only he can. The Spirit of God in him shines ever so brightly as he sips on his “Waffle House” cup of coffee or tea. Making-up and singing a song of Praise just outpours his joy in the Lord. He can also be found on Tuesday night teaching and training the Ministerial Staff on the Fundamentals of Preaching, Sermon Building, and Pulpit Etiquette – sharing his wisdom, God’s Word, and his wealth of pastoral/ministry experiences – depositing those priceless ministry nuggets into the lives of his sons and daughters in the ministry.
Pastor Lockhart has received various honors, awards, & recognitions during his service to God. The list includes Keys to the Cities of Cassville, GA, Little Rock, AK, and Jacksonville, FL, Pastor of the Year, Carter G. Woodson’s Freedom Award, Goodwill Ambassador, Community Man of the Year, Community Service Awards, City Proclamations, and an Honorary Doctorate Degree of Biblical Studies from the Believers Bible College.
While his accomplishments in the ministry are many, Pastor Lockhart’s most cherished moment was the day he married the love of his life, “his Peacock” – Mabel Jean Dantley Lockhart. They were blessed to share 48 years of marriage before the Lord called her home. He is the proud father of one son, Minister Benjamin Lockhart, III, daughter-in-law, Minister Brynelle Miller Lockhart, and the proud “Papa” of grandsons, Sekai Benjamin and Justice Brennan Lockhart.
